Targeted Sensory Motor Therapy (TSMT II) is recommended for children from 18 months to 12 years of age who have one or several of the following symptoms:
TSMT group sessions are recommended for children who during the Longitudinal Complex Examination reach a level of 50-75% in the area of Maturity of the nervous system and motor skills, but perform below 75% in the field of Attention of the Cognitive area. It is important that children participating in the group gymnastics were cooperative and able to work independently or with little help in groups of 4 to 8 people. Spectacular results can be achieved in children who are unsteady in movements, hyperactive or insecure and not ready for school, whose attentional functions definitely need to be improved.
The therapy takes place in a gym environment, in a stimulus-rich setting, typically without parents – with the exception of toddlers and groups of children who are severely delayed but can be integrated into a group.
Each group is homogeneous and consists of 4-8 people with the same level of skills, so the sessions are suitable for learning personalized trainings. The therapist conducts the exercises in a pre-set room according to specific training elements.
The applied tasks, besides facilitating the gross motor processing of the specific operation period, better controllability of attention, improvement of sensorimotor synchronizations and practice, maturation of body outline, spatial orientation, laterality and dominance, also promote the development of seriality, sense of rhythm and motor creativity and of simultaneous multi-channel attention, as well as the integration of the so-called primitive/infant reflex profile.
These skills and abilities serve as an essential basis for successful schooling.
Each session of the TSMT II therapy lasts 45-90 minutes, 2-3 times a week. The trainings usually follow the schedule of the academic year, so for spectacular results it is worth enrolling the child from September to June.
The difficulty level of the trainings changes every two weeks, and the weighting of tasks differs in each training series. In case of group sessions, follow-up is recommended at the end of the year after the end of the series of trainings, the result of which will indicate whether the child is recommended for further therapy – performed in an advanced group – or the TSMT II sessions may be replaced with other development or sports.
